Based on our highly successful Playgroup and Kindergarten courses, the International Pre-School focuses on the complete development of the child during the fomative years. Through games, songs, and arts and crafts, our children study Vietnamese and English the 'natural' way.

Playgroup (2.5 - 4 years)

The Playgroup course endeavours to create an environment where the only language the children are exposed to for the length of the lesson is English. This method of Total Language Immersion is the most natural way to learn a language and it is the way that we all acquire (children do not naturally learn a language they acquire it) our native language from when we are children.

The course aims to introduce these children to an English-speaking environment in a natural, informal manner. The most important rule is that the children must have fun in class, since this introduction to English should initiate a sense of enjoyment and a positive attitude to learning language that should continue throughout their formative years.

Kindergarten (5 - 6 years)
The Shane Kindergarten course is aimed at the complete development of the students through English. Our philosophy is to work on projects and tasks using English as the communicative medium. The students therefore develop a need for the language (they must use it to communicate), and this enhances their English ability.

Below are some of the ways we can enhance the acquisition process:

•  By being motivated to communicate. This usually comes from their own interests and intentions, but it is possible to make children interested by creating the right environment.

•  By being surrounded by good role models. Children need to listen to English' before they can begin to produce it themselves.

•  By being praised and encouraged to talk. When a child can see that others are pleased with his/her efforts, he/she will be motivated to try again.

•  By being exposed to the same language and vocabulary time and time again in varied but appropriate contexts.

•  When the talk is focused on present concrete situations.

•  Through fun' language activities (games, songs).

•  Through hands-on experience and practical activities.

•  When language is meaningful, useful and functional.

Lower Elementary (7 - 9 years)

Using our own Shane Primary English Course (SPEC) books, this course is designed to develop the four principal skills; Reading , Writing, Speaking and Listening.

A special emphasis is also placed on the study of Phonics . The children learn how to spell and say the sounds of English, all the while improving their pronunciation.

Mid and end-of-term written and oral tests enable us to carefully monitor the progress of our students. This is reinforced through our regular 'Telephone Teaching' sessions.

Higher Elementary (10 - 12 years)
Using our own Take Off books, this course is designed to develop the four principal skills; Reading , Writing, Speaking and Listening.
